Against The Odds

A massive subdural hematoma put River in a coma for several days and resulted in significant brain damage.  Before this catastrophic event, River was a typical toddler developing normally.  “His doctors thought he would be in a vegetative state,” said Jennifer, River’s mom.  After nearly two months in the hospital, River was referred to our outpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation Program for intensive physical, occupational and speech therapy.  With therapy, River has made huge progress.  “He could barely sit up and couldn’t crawl,” said Jennifer.  Today, River is walking and attends preschool.  “We are so grateful,” said Jennifer.  “River would not be who he is today without the Rehabilitation Institute!”
