A shallow diving accident changed Barry’s life forever. The accident resulted in a spinal cord injury that left Barry paralyzed with limited hand and arm function. After intensive rehabilitation and time learning to live life using a power wheelchair, Barry returned to college to pursue a Master’s Degree in Counseling. During the process, he received assistance from our Adaptive Computer and Communication and Technology Program where he learned to use voice-activated computer software. This device helped Barry take notes in class and complete assignments. After getting his Masters, Barry landed a job with the State of Missouri as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.
